Design ID achieves B Corp™ Certification, strengthening our approach to responsible design
One of our brand values centres on being impactful. For an interior design studio like Design ID, responsibility begins well before a space is built. Decisions made during the design and specification process can have a lasting influence on the environmental and social impact of an interior, from the materials selected and suppliers recommended to the durability, adaptability and long-term performance of the finished space.
For Design ID, B Corp™ Certification provides a framework for looking more closely at those decisions and considering how responsible thinking can become increasingly embedded within the studio and the work it delivers.
The certification also provides a useful opportunity to look beyond the immediate design brief and consider the wider implications of specification.
Across our team, that means asking more questions about where products and materials come from, how suppliers operate and what environmental credentials sit behind the products being proposed.
We are incredibly proud to be part of a B Corp™ Certified business. For Design ID, it reinforces the responsible design principles we are continuing to build our studio and gives us a stronger framework for considering the impact of the decisions we make.
It encourages us to look more deeply at specification, our supply chains, where products and materials come from and the environmental credentials of the suppliers we work with. That helps us give clients greater reassurance when sustainability is an important part of their brief.
Interior design inevitably involves choices for both the designer and the client. Materials need to perform, projects have budgets and programmes, products need to be available, and creative ambitions must work alongside practical requirements.
For Design ID, responsible design means understanding those realities while continuing to ask better questions.
That can mean considering whether a material is responsibly sourced, understanding more about a supplier’s credentials, looking at durability and longevity, or considering whether products can ultimately be maintained, adapted or reused.
It is not about claiming that every decision has a perfect answer.
Instead, it is about having better information available and using it to help clients make informed choices wherever there is an opportunity to make a positive difference.
For me, our role as passionate interior designers, representing some incredible client partners, gives Design ID an opportunity to influence many of the decisions that ultimately shape an interior.
That influence begins with the overall design concept and extends through materials, finishes, furniture, lighting, fixtures and specialist products.
B Corp standards challenge us as a team to do better, strengthening the studio’s focus on understanding those choices more fully.
Increasingly, the conversation goes beyond appearance and initial cost to consider responsible sourcing, supplier credentials, durability, longevity, maintainability, potential for reuse and the environmental characteristics of the products and materials being proposed.
For clients, this provides greater transparency and reassurance, particularly where sustainability, responsible procurement or wider ESG objectives form an important part of the brief.
It also reflects a broader shift in the way interiors are being considered. The environmental and social impact of a project cannot simply be addressed at the end of the process; it needs to be considered through the decisions that shape the project from the outset.
For Design ID, that means continuing to develop the studio’s knowledge, strengthen our approach to specification and work collaboratively with suppliers and clients to make better-informed decisions.
While we are proud of achieving B Corp Certification, we do not see it as a claim of perfection.
Responsible design means understanding those realities, asking better questions and helping our clients make informed decisions wherever we have an opportunity to make a positive difference.”
Ultimately, B Corp™ Certification is another step in Design ID’s ongoing development as a responsible interior studio. It recognises the progress already made while providing the information, tools and accountability to keep learning and improving, with the aim of creating exceptional interiors while helping clients make better-informed decisions about their wider impact.
