Located in one of London’s most vibrant shopping hubs and most iconic areas, the opening of Kapten & Son’s flagship in Covent Garden – its first location in the UK – marks an important step in the international brand’s growth, bringing its contemporary European identity to one of London’s most recognisable retail destinations.
To help their breakthrough into the country, we helped them translate an established store concept into a scheme adapted to the UK market while safeguarding the European essence of the brand.
Expanding into a new market brings both opportunity and complexity. The challenge was to retain the integrity of Kapten & Son’s existing retail concept while ensuring it met UK regulations, approvals processes and delivery requirements.
Working as the UK design partner, we collaborated closely with the brand’s European architects and alongside DBSJ to develop detailed technical drawing packages. Acting as a bridge between international design teams and local delivery partners, we ensured all parties were aligned during the early stages of the project so the concept could move forward with clarity and confidence.
Our focus was on providing clear, coordinated information to support the approvals process, aligning all parties and ensuring compliance with UK standards while maintaining the brand’s original design intent throughout. By translating the design concept into a technically robust and compliant scheme, we helped create a strong foundation for the next stages of delivery.
Today, Kapten & Son’s first UK flagship stands as a bold expression of the brand’s identity, brought to life in one of London’s most dynamic retail environments. The space invites customers to step into the brand’s world, combining a clean, contemporary European aesthetic with an engaging in-store experience that reflects the energy of Covent Garden. The result is a confident, design-led store that feels both true to its origins and perfectly at home in its new setting, marking a strong first step in the brand’s UK journey.
